Mth 490 Teaching Mathematics for Social Justice

Designed for prospective or in-service K-16 mathematics teachers, learners interrogate the intersection of two otherwise disparate academic subjects – mathematics and social justice, and explore how mathematics can be used to understand, explore, and investigate racial and social injustices in the United States. We live in a society where mathematics is at the foundation of many injustices. To be explored in depth are the ethical possibilities of teaching mathematics as a tool for analyzing, and acting upon, issues of importance to students, their communities, and humankind in general.
