PS 385 Capitalism and Its Discontents

Examination of the theoretical underpinnings of capitalism and an analysis of various critiques of pro-capitalist claims about the legitimacy and benefits of capitalist economic systems. Course materials will range from classic 18th and 19th century thinkers writing about the early development of capitalism to 20th and 21st century writers and cultural commentators exploring modern capitalism and its impact on the contemporary world.
