UnSt 187 Cyborg Millennium

Continuing technological revolutions of the last 50 years in quantum physics, information technology and genetics have profoundly altered current human experience. This course explores the impacts of these new technologies on, among other things, concepts of humanity, society, privacy and cultural identity. We will look at changes underway in social relations, legal doctrines, political values and environmental consciousness. Through stories, films, case studies, field research, art, books and original projects, students will have a wide range of outlets through which to explore and express their own questions and ideas, and to mediate among differing viewpoints. Senior Inquiry and Condensed FRINQs are equivalent to the 15 credit, 3-term (5-credit) sequences, but offered in a 2-term format for 7 and 8 credits respectively.
